Folks, let me tell you about a lesson that took me far too long to learn: the difference between BEING and DOING in Christian leadership. For years, I was caught up in the “doing” – running businesses, chairing boards, always busy with the next big project. Sound familiar?
But here’s the thing: God cares more about who we ARE than what we DO. It was a game-changer when I finally got that through my thick skull!
Remember when I used to ask waiters and waitresses, “What do you want to BE when you grow up?” I wasn’t just fishing for better service (okay, maybe a little). I was onto something bigger without even realizing it.
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the doing. We measure success by our accomplishments, our titles, our busy schedules. But Jesus? He calls us to something deeper. He wants us to BE – be loving, be compassionate, be His ambassadors.
When I shifted my focus from doing to being, everything changed. My relationships deepened. My ministry became more authentic. And you know what? The “doing” flowed more naturally from a place of being.
So, my fellow leaders, I challenge you: Take a step back. Ask yourself, “Who am I BEING in my leadership?” Are you being patient? Humble? A servant? These qualities matter far more than your to-do list or your achievements.
Remember, we’re human BEings, not human DOings. Let’s lead from a place of BEING, and watch how God uses that to transform our doing.
