Good Sunday Morning, Friends!

Good Sunday Morning, Friends!

As I sit here quietly this Sunday morning, I find myself reflecting on just how much we have to be thankful for.

First, I want to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who responded to my last post, Many Have Asked How They Can Help. So many of you have continued to reach out with prayers, encouraging messages, and expressions of love. And many of you have gone a step further with generous financial gifts to help us through this unexpected journey. Debbie and I are deeply grateful. Your kindness has touched us more than you can imagine.

Now for some good news about Debbie!

Her recovery continues to be very positive. Every day brings a little more progress, and her attitude has been absolutely fabulous. She’s determined, optimistic, and, perhaps most importantly, very anxious to get home!

We have also been blessed by some gracious friends who have provided us with not one, but two wheelchairs. One is a regular wheelchair, perfectly sized to navigate our small home. The other is motorized, which means that when the time comes, Debbie will be able to get outside and enjoy traveling around our beloved Balboa Island. I can already picture her cruising around the island!

Isn’t it remarkable how God designed our bodies? When I think about the extent of Debbie’s injuries and watch the healing process unfold, I am amazed at the body’s ability to repair and restore itself. What a miraculous gift.

An Important Wednesday Ahead

This coming Wednesday, around noon, we have an important appointment with Dr. Hoshino, the orthopedic surgeon who performed the remarkable reconstruction of Debbie’s shattered right knee. We will also be discussing the fractures in her left foot and ankle.

Because of these injuries, Debbie has been unable to put weight on either leg. We are hopeful that Wednesday’s appointment will give us a clearer picture of how much longer those restrictions will remain and when we might begin planning for her return home.

And here’s one more little piece of good news. This morning, Debbie is hoping to wheel herself down to the gathering room at her rehabilitation facility to join others watching a livestream of Saddleback Church’s Sunday service. I love that! Even in the middle of recovery, she wants to be part of a worshiping community.

Thank You for Walking With Us

We still have a road ahead of us, but we are encouraged. Every day seems to bring another small victory, another reason to smile, and another reminder that we are not walking this road alone.

Please continue praying for Debbie’s healing, for wisdom as we meet with her surgeon on Wednesday, and for the day when I can finally bring my sweetheart home.

After 57 years of marriage, I can tell you that home just isn’t quite the same without her.

With love and gratitude,

Jim and Debbie
