Dear Friends,
Today has been another day of learning what the next stage of Debbie’s recovery is going to look like.
Because Debbie cannot put any weight on either leg for about six weeks, even the simplest things have suddenly become complicated.
Mission Hospital’s physical therapy team has been working with her on the things most of us never think twice about. How do you safely move from a bed to a wheelchair when you cannot use either leg? How do you begin taking care of yourself again? How do you regain some independence while your body is still healing?
Pain continues to make all of this more difficult. There are times when Debbie simply hurts too much to do everything the therapists would like her to do. So, for now, progress is measured in very small steps.
But they are still steps forward.
Our biggest focus now is determining the safest plan for what comes next. We are working through the details of moving Debbie from Mission Hospital to a rehabilitation facility where she can continue receiving care and physical therapy. Even transporting her safely from the hospital to the facility requires planning because of her injuries.
There are still questions to answer and details to work out, and we are trying not to get too far ahead of ourselves.
One thing at a time.
One decision at a time.
One day at a time.
Please continue to pray that Debbie’s pain will become more manageable so she can participate more fully in physical therapy. Pray for wisdom for all of us as we determine the safest plan for her care and for the details of her move to the rehabilitation facility to come together smoothly.
Most of all, pray that Debbie continues to find the strength and patience she needs for a recovery that we now understand will be measured in weeks and months rather than days.
Thank you for continuing to pray, encourage us, and walk this journey with us.
Jim
