Debbie has made it to The Orchards

Dear Friends,

After everything we have been through, I’m very thankful to tell you that Debbie has made it to The Orchards.

She left Mission Hospital by ambulance and arrived around 5:30 in the evening. There were two people with the ambulance, a driver and an attendant who stayed with Debbie. Debbie and the attendant really hit it off. He was kind and gentle with her, and they enjoyed talking during the trip. It was another one of those little blessings God seems to keep putting in our path.

When we arrived, we unpacked all the things we have been carrying around for what seems like forever, clothes, cosmetics, and all the necessities of hospital life.

We arrived right at dinner time, and they brought two meals to Debbie’s room. So, for the first time in quite a while, we simply sat together and had dinner. Debbie had lamb, I had chicken, and it was really good. After the days we have had, sharing a meal together felt pretty wonderful.

Her private room is very, very nice, and perhaps the best news of all for Debbie is that her room has a private shower. She has been dying to wash her hair. I’ve learned after 57 years of marriage that sometimes having clean hair can make the world look a whole lot better.

Now the work begins.

Debbie starts physical therapy tomorrow, and she is ready. I can see a difference in her eyes and in the way she is moving. She is feeling better, she is very motivated, and she seems ready to take on the challenge ahead.

We are just so thankful. There were moments when we really didn’t know where Debbie would go or how all of this was going to come together. But once again, the Lord provided and got us to The Orchards.

There is still a long road ahead, but we have reached another important mile marker.

Thank you for your prayers, your messages, and for walking this journey with us. Please keep praying for Debbie as she begins the hard work of rehabilitation.

We are grateful. Very grateful.

Jim
